Department PhilosophyToday’s society is becoming increasingly technology-oriented, a trend that shows little prospect of diminishing. To be truly prepared to function at any level in such a society requires a firm foundation in the disciplines of mathematics.
The Mathematics Department of St. Peter Chanel High School recognizes its responsibility to prepare students of varying levels of mathematics abilities and aptitudes to become successful participants in this technological world. Fulfillment of this responsibility entails a program of studies broad enough to encompass the needs of all students in the math program. These needs range from a firm knowledge of the mathematics needed for everyday life to the advanced levels of math encountered in the sciences and engineering fields and in pure mathematics itself. Beyond meeting the needs of mathematics students, an overriding goal of the Mathematics Department is to integrate life values and an outlook consistent with the Roman Catholic tradition into the mathematics curriculum. The production of a logical, reasoning, inquiring and informed person, gifted with a Christian conscience, is a major goal of the Mathematics Department of St. Peter Chanel High School.
