St. Peter Chanel AcademicsEvery St. Peter Chanel experience attempts to help each student to gain an understanding of Christian life from the Roman Catholic perspective and to be prepared for a college program or to enter the workplace.
St. Peter Chanel challenges students to realize their potential through rigorous academic programs. Students will develop active listening and critical thinking skills allowing them to be successful in higher education and to become life long learners. St. Peter Chanel High School offers advanced placement, honors, and college prep courses. The following are recommended: 4 units of Religion 4 units of English 3 units of Social Studies 3 units of Mathematics 3 units of Science (typically two lab sciences) 1/2 unit of Health 1/2 unit of Physical Education 1 unit of Fine Arts (Music or Visual) 1/2 unit of Computer Literacy Students take additional credits in foreign language, fine arts, or additional department electives. Typically, students take 7 classes each year. Each year students take 7 courses in our eight period day. St. Peter Chanel employs a traditional schedule rather than a block schedule. While block schedules offer a trendy alternative, none have produced the same consistently high results. Advanced Placement courses are accelerated, ending with a standardized, national exam. High scores on the exam allow students to earn three to six college credits depending upon the college/university. St. Peter Chanel High School offers AP English and AP Calculus. Honors courses are offered for four levels in English, three levels in Math, Biology, Chemistry, and in World History, U.S. History, and Government. These courses have weighted grades because they are more challenging and demand more work. College prep courses are the main offerings in the various departments of English, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science. Failed Course Make-up Options |
